Sister

Years ago, I dear friend of mine had a pet rabbit.  They loved that rabbit, it lived in their house and was just like a cat in a way.  When that pet rabbit died, they were devastated.  One day, one of her children brought home a kitten.  They fell in love with him quickly, but my friend's husband wouldn't let them keep it. They were devastated, because they wanted their kitten to have a good home, be loved, and be safe.  That's how I ended up with my cat, George.

George was a tortoiseshell Manx.  He was the first truly unique cat I had.  Manx are built differently, shorter bodied and longer legged.  They are very athletic, and amazing jumpers.  George used to snatch hummingbirds out of the air.  He was a fantastic hunter and always kept us 'fed' with the choicest offerings of a wide variety of creatures.

George also had an amazing personality.  He was friendly and bold with everyone.  He never met a person he didn't like.  Everyone that met him said they wanted to take him home because he was the coolest cat they'd ever seen. Of course, you couldn't pet him for long or he'd turn on you. He had wicked claws from living the life of a wild cat. (He lived outside and roamed the very rural town we lived in). He even loved dogs.

When I was younger, my mom refused to allow us to have animals in the house, so all of our creatures had to stay outside unless we snuck them in.  My sister had a new boxer puppy one Christmas season.  She was staying at the house, and her little boxer puppy was forced to stay outside in the freezing cold.  We set up a heat lamp and a cozy dog house, but it wasn't the best situation for a very short haired dog.  Well, when we checked on the dog, George was curled up around that puppy keeping it warm.  After that, mom relented and both creatures came in for the winter.  George was still a kitten at that point, but already he had a heart larger than a lion's.

I don't have pics of this to add to the blog, but they exist. I just have them physically in storage since this was before digital photos.  Anyway, George and Jade were besties for life after that.
The point of this story of one of my many long gone pets, is this.  Gus just got a little sister and she is a Manx.

Chad and I fully intended for Gus to have a sibling, but we wanted to wait until the dog that currently lives with us moved out.  The dog, although terrified of Gus, kept him occupied and interested.  Gus is very social and needed another person or animal to keep him occupied during the day when we work.  I really planned on getting either another Ragdoll or another American Bobtail (Raz was a bobtail). I also intended for his sibling to be a brother.

So, my niece, the same one that found Gus, went home to Utah for her two week vacation from work.  To make a long story short  (or not so long of a story), she showed up with a tiny little Manx kitten. She is white with black spots like a Holstein.

She's sort of homely although her personality is huge.  She walked into this house and immediately took charge.  She has the confidence of a leopard and the size of a mouse.  Even though the dog is terrified of cats (courtesy of my beloved Jinx) Georgie charmed him immediately.

All three in a row.  I'm holding Gus, then Georgie. Notice that moose isn't by Gus!

Gus, follows her around everywhere and watches every move she makes with fascination.  He plays with her, and they chase each other around the house.  It's hilarious to see a diminutive kitten chasing a big hulking beast like Gus.  He's game though.  He loves having another cat although he gets frustrated when he tries to wrestle with her and she squeaks because he's much too big at this point for that.  He does back off though and lets her go.  He's a gentleman.

Her personality reminded me and Chad so much of George, that we named her Georgie.  It fits her well.  We were going to go with Moxie, because she oozes it, but Georgie just fit her delicate femininity.

That fish looks tiny next to Gus!

Anyway, Georgie is not the kitty we would have chosen, but she is growing on us. Most importantly, Gus adores her!
